Daniel Moreno Flores is an architect and founding partner of La Cabina de la Curiosidad, a Quito-based design and research practice combining architecture, craft, and education. The practice investigates water management, notions of community and territory, and vernacular knowledge. Through building projects and transdisciplinary collaborations, its work develops from a deep commitment to architecture as a shared cultural act. The Chaki Wasi handicrafts center, which was built with the Shalalá Indigenous community in the Ecuadorian Andes, was recognized by the Swiss Architectural Award in 2018, 2020, and 2024, nominated for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize in 2020, 2022, and 2024. With La Cabina de la Curiosidad co-founder Marie Combette, Moreno Flores has lectured internationally, including at Columbia GSAPP and BIAU, the Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism. Moreno Flores was the national curator for Ecuador at the BIAU 2019 in Paraguay.

We believe that an architect should not merely design and build according to the norm. Rather, through professional practice, one has an obligation to make powerful calls to action to address the world’s deficiencies. Practicing architecture allows us to connect with many spheres of reality, and it is vital to raise our voices and become activists to build a better world for all entities on this planet.
