Søren Pihlmann

Søren Pihlmann founded Copenhagen-based pihlmann architects in 2021. The practice approaches the existing context as its point of departure, closely considering the materials, construction systems, and production logics of the built environment. Through processes of transformation and regenerative preservation, the work bridges the overproduced and the undervalued, curating these conditions and exposing their latent possibilities. In recent years, Pihlmann’s work has contributed to Danish and international discourse on reuse, maintenance, and architectural rationality. In 2025, he curated the Danish Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale, initiating a renovation of the building to mitigate recurrent flooding and using surplus construction material as the core of the exhibition.
“Working with the existing is not a compromise driven by responsibility towards resources and heritage: it is a way of raising architectural quality and shaping identity, keeping buildings in motion through repair, recalibration, and reallocation, and judging projects by what they conserve, refine, and keep usable over time. Supporting The World Around helps foreground this shift from novelty to a new baseline.”
