The World Around’s inaugural Annual Dinner was held in the historic reception rooms of New York’s Park Avenue Armory, meticulously restored in 2014 by Herzog & de Meuron. The evening began in the Veterans Room with an exclusive In Dialogue conversation on the theme of “Radical Restoration.” Moderated by Pulitzer Prize–winning critic Paul Goldberger, the discussion featured Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu, laureates of the Pritzker Prize, alongside Ascan Mergenthaler of Herzog & de Meuron. Mergenthaler reflected on the radical restoration of the Armory itself, while Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu shared their extraordinary work in China, where they weave together craft traditions, historic preservation, and contemporary design. Guests then moved to the Board of Officers Room for an intimate dinner among many of The World Around’s closest friends and supporters, celebrating architecture’s power to honor the past while shaping the future.
