La Cabina de la Curiosidad
Marie Combette and Daniel Moreno Flores are founding partners of La Cabina de la Curiosidad, a Quito-based design and research practice combining architecture, craft, and education. The practice investigates water management, notions of community and territory, and vernacular knowledge. Through building projects and transdisciplinary collaborations, its work develops from a deep commitment to architecture as a shared cultural act. The Chaki Wasi handicrafts center, which was built with the Shalalá Indigenous community in the Ecuadorian Andes, was recognized by the Swiss Architectural Award in 2018, 2020, and 2024, nominated for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize in 2020, 2022, and 2024. Combette and Flores have lectured internationally, including at Columbia GSAPP and BIAU, the Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism.
“We are a diverse collective, driven by the desire to understand the world we live in, question it, and reflect on how to inhabit it harmoniously, in symbiosis with all entities of nature. We engage in peaceful struggles to advocate for deficient processes or those in need of healing. We work to sustain culture, and we are deeply interested in recycling and local natural materials, which hold immense wisdom in their use, as they are resources provided by nature itself.”
