Liu Jiakun is an architect and the founding principal of Jiakun Architects. Based in Jiakun’s hometown, Chengdu, the firm’s portfolio spans large-scale masterplanning, urban design, landscape architecture, interior design, product design, and art installations. Through deep attention to social realities, local context, and vernacular craftsmanship, Jiakun uses contemporary design to interpret traditional Chinese aesthetics and folk wisdom. His designs are led by a deep commitment to serving his fellow citizens and many cast light on the reciprocal relationship between public life and urban cultural space in China.

Among Jiakun Architects’ numerous projects in Chengdu are the West Village Courtyard (2015), Chengdu Contemporary Art Museum (2010), Clock Museum of Cultural Revolution (2008), and Luyeyuan Stone Sculpture Art Museum (2002). Jiakun’s work has been displayed at both the Venice Architecture and Art Biennales (in 2014 and 2015, respectively) among numerous other international exhibitions. In 2018, he received the commission for the inaugural Serpentine Pavilion in Beijing. Liu is the 2025 Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Jiakun has lectured at leading institutions worldwide and is currently a visiting professor at the School of Architecture Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.
