Ma Yansong is the founder and principal partner of MAD Architects, an international design firm with offices in Beijing, Los Angeles, and Rome. Founded in 2004, MAD is known for its fluid and technologically advanced designs, which aim to reconnect architecture with nature as well as the emotional and spiritual needs of the people who inhabit it. The practice has completed projects worldwide, including Harbin Opera House in China (2015), The Tunnel of Light in Echigo, Japan (2018), Courtyard Kindergarten in Beijing (2020), Quzhou Sports Campus in China (2022), Jiaxing Train Station in China (2024), the Fenix in Rotterdam (2025), and the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles (set to open in 2026). Alongside his design practice, Yansong has lectured and taught extensively. He has been an adjunct professor at Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Tsinghua University, and the University of Southern California. His works are part of numerous public collections, including M+ Museum in Hong Kong, and Centre Pompidou in Paris.
