Sharon Johnston is a founding partner of architecture studio Johnston Marklee, based in Los Angeles. Since the firm was established in 1998, Johnston Marklee has been internationally recognized with over 50 major awards, including the 2024 Richard Neutra Award for Professional Excellence and the American Academy of Arts & Letters Award in Architecture in 2022. Projects undertaken by Johnston Marklee are diverse in scale and type, spanning 14 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Notable projects include the permanent home for the Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program at Roy Lichtenstein Studio in New York; the UCLA Margo Leavin Graduate Art Studios in Culver City; a renovation of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago; and the Menil Drawing Institute in Houston. The firm’s work is the subject of monographs including House Is A House Is A House Is A House Is A House (Birkhäuser, 2016).
