Cave_bureau

Kabage Karanja and Stella Mutegi founded Cave_bureau in 2014. Based in Nairobi, the design and research firm aims to position architecture as a practice of social and ecological repair. Their work addresses the anthropological and geological context of the postcolonial African city through drawing, storytelling, construction, and the curation of performative events of resistance. Karanja and Mutegi were part of the curatorial team for the British Pavilion exhibition at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, which received a Special Mention for National Participation. Karanja and Mutegi are currently Louis I. Khan visiting assistant professors at Yale School of Architecture.
