Jakob Kudsk Steensen

Jakob Kudsk Steensen is an artist working with environmental storytelling through video games, VR, sound installations, and immersive environments. He creates poetic interpretations about overlooked natural phenomena through collaborations with field biologists, composers, and writers. Jakob’s projects are based on extensive fieldwork in overlooked, rare, or transforming ecosystems, digitizing life and spaces as sound and 3D environments. Key collaborators include musician ARCA, composer and musical director for the Philip Glass Ensemble Michael Riesman, ornithologist and author Dr. Douglas H. Pratt, K-pop group BTS, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and the Natural History Museum Berlin, among others.
“We used to sing in order to navigate the world. Verses were used to map shifting terrains across wetlands and rivers thousands of years ago. We need to bring this sense of poetic, embodied and collective rhythm back into how we relate to the new natural worlds arriving.”
