Joe Christa Giraso

Joe Christa Giraso is one of only a few landscape architects in Rwanda, where she works with MASS (Model of Architecture Serving Society) and is dedicated to creating a future where all life can thrive. She is working to rebuild biodiversity, while also ensuring the land can nourish a population that has doubled over the past three decades, putting pressure on the country's distinctive habitats, threatening numerous native species—including the mountain gorilla—while making it harder to produce enough food with limited available land. Through her work, Joe Christa is not only shaping environments but also influencing the narrative of landscape architecture’s role in shaping Rwanda’s future.
“Now is a critical time to highlight the best practices from which we can all draw inspiration. The World Around has consistently served as a powerful platform to amplify the diverse work that is shaping and impacting communities across the globe. This consistent celebration of innovation gives me hope that the remarkable ideas shared through The World Around’s platform are not only seen, but also influencing communities and catalyzing impact far beyond their origins for many years to come.”
