Li Hu

Li Hu is partner of OPEN Architecture, an architecture office founded with Huang Wenjing in New York City in 2006. In 2008, the firm established a second office in Beijing, and has since completed major projects in China including UCCA Dune Art Museum in Qinhuangdao (2018), Tank Shanghai (2019), Qingpu Pinghe International School in Shanghai (2020), Chapel of Sound in Chengde (2021), and Sun Tower in Tanhai (2024). OPEN’s work has been widely published and exhibited around the world, including at the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennale, the Venice Biennale, and the London Design Museum.
Li is a frequent lecturer and design critic at universities worldwide. He was director of Columbia University GSAPP’s Studio-X Beijing, a Kenzo Tange Design Critic in Architecture at Harvard University GSD, and visiting professor at the Tsinghua University School of Architecture and the China Central Academy of Fine Arts. With OPEN co-founder Huang, he has authored books including Reinventing Cultural Architecture: A Radical Vision by OPEN (Rizzoli, 2022), OPEN Questions (UED, 2018), and Towards Openness (Applied Research and Design Publishing, 2018).
