Mohammed Anowar is a 19-year-old climate activist living in the world’s largest Rohingya Refugee Camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Since 2019, he has been working with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to raise awareness about the urgent impacts of climate change, such as deforestation and biodiversity loss. Growing up in a vulnerable environment, he witnessed firsthand how climate issues affect displaced communities. This inspired him to take action—educating youth, organizing awareness meetings, and leading local campaigns to protect our natural surroundings. Mohammed’s mission is to empower his community to understand and respond to environmental challenges. He believes that even in crisis, we can be part of the solution and become stewards of the Earth.
"Being part of The World Around’s Young Climate Prize has given me the global platform I never imagined. It connects my work in the Rohingya refugee camps to a wider community of changemakers and architects of hope. The support and mentorship I received empowered me to amplify my voice and bring more attention to the urgent climate issues we face—like deforestation and biodiversity loss. The World Around gives me hope, because it shows that people across the world, no matter where they are, can come together to protect both our built and natural environments. We are not alone in this fight."
