Designing Buildings for a Better World

Megan Suau discusses her work at MASS Design Group, the non-profit architecture and design collective dedicated to advancing justice and human dignity through the built environment. With a portfolio that spans memorials, healthcare and education facilities, and civic spaces, MASS is known for projects such as the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama, the Butaro Health Campus in Rwanda, and the Gun Violence Memorial Project in Chicago and Washington DC.
At the core of Suau’s work is the belief that architecture’s influence extends far beyond individual buildings—that it can help communities confront history, shape new narratives, support collective healing, and imagine new futures. During her time leading projects at MASS, she explored how design can act as both a tool of remembrance and a catalyst for transformation.
