Donald Judd’s Architecture Office

For the second instalment in our new On Site series, The World Around travelled to the high desert of Far West Texas for the opening of Donald Judd’s Architecture Office. One of eleven buildings part of the Judd Foundation’s long-term restoration plan for his living and working spaces in Marfa, the office is the first project to reintroduce the renowned American artist through his built work.
When Donald Judd moved to Marfa in the 1970s, he set a depopulated army town on a path to becoming one of the country’s major art destinations. As the Judd Foundation’s restored buildings open their doors to the public, how will the desert city be reframed in relation to contemporary architecture? While the art world knows Judd the Artist, On Site: Marfa introduces Judd the Architect through the eyes of those working to honor his legacy.
