In the second instalment of the On Site series, The World Around travels to an oasis of culture in the high desert of Far West Texas for the opening of Donald Judd’s Architecture Office. One of eleven buildings that are part of the Judd Foundation’s long-term restoration plan for his living and working spaces in Marfa, the office is the first project to reintroduce the renowned American artist through his work in architecture.

When Judd moved to Marfa in the 1970s, he set a remote former army town on a path to becoming one of the country’s major art destinations. As the Judd Foundation’s restored buildings open their doors to the public, how will the desert city be reframed in relation to contemporary architecture? While the art world knows Judd the Artist, The World Around sets out to meet Judd the Architect through the eyes of those working to honor his legacy.

The World Around’s critically acclaimed public programs convene speakers from around the world to map the changing landscape of contemporary architecture and design. With our new On Site series, The World Around travels to meet the change where it’s happening, offering unique insights from the most influential people on the scene.
