Leading Architecture to a Zero-Carbon Future

Etta Madete Mukuba is the affordable housing director at BuildX and a human-centered design architect committed to placing communities at the core of building and design. She chose to pursue architecture for its tangible potential to deliver practical solutions, and her work reflects a deep passion for sustainable building technologies and materials in the built environment.
Through her practice, Madete addresses development challenges through an architectural lens, aiming to drive social change and create lasting impact. She is currently leading the design of sustainable, low-income housing developments in Nairobi, projects that supplement and strengthen existing structures while fostering healthier, more resilient neighborhoods. With innovative and community-driven approaches, Madete envisions architecture as a tool for building not just homes, but thriving communities that promote health, dignity, and well-being.
