About In Focus: Research
In a society compounded by problems, architects and artists are increasingly turning to research as a form of practice and activism. In Focus: Research positioned research as a critical tool for architecture and intersecting design disciplines with presentations from those approaching the most urgent issues of our time through expansive, transdisciplinary forms of practice. During this day-long program at London’s Design Museum, we explored research as a form of hopeful advocacy through visibility and representation. Our speakers described how designers are using labs to investigate ways to mitigate and repair long term social and environmental damage, or to create unique and lasting ways of parsing complex relationships and ecosystems through images and film.
The In Focus series allows The World Around to travel and partner with global institutions and delve into specific topics to gain a deeper understanding of how they shape—or can be shaped by—the work of architects and designers.
