Named for the Polish "miedza"—a biodiverse strip between cultivated fields—Miejska Miedza transforms conventional lawns at the Gdańsk University of Technology into semi-natural meadows managed for wild pollinators, offering a model for urban habitat restoration. Backed by seed funding from a regional environmental protection fund, the project has sown around 117 native species so far. Lectures on pollinator conservation and workshops teaching students to build nesting aids for wild bees run alongside monitoring of how the new habitats affect local insect populations. As Poland's first integrated urban wild-bee protection system, the work also draws on posthumanist philosophy to consider how cities might support coexistence between human and non-human life rather than treating nature as a decorative backdrop.

Bolesław Jacaszek founded and leads Miejska Miedza, developing its ecological and philosophical framework, coordinating scientists, students and institutions and directing partnerships, public communication and the physical campus transformation.
