The Age of You

Shumon Basar is a writer, thinker, and cultural critic whose work explores the shifting intersections of technology, culture, and identity in the 21st century. He is the co-author of The Age of Earthquakes: A Guide to the Extreme Present (with Douglas Coupland and Hans Ulrich Obrist) and the forthcoming The Extreme Self, which investigate how our sense of personhood is transformed by digital life. At The World Around, Basar introduces Age of You, an exhibition he co-curated with Coupland and Obrist, with graphic design by Daly & Lyon. Bringing together more than 70 artists, designers, filmmakers, and musicians, the exhibition examines what it means to be an individual today, at a moment when our identities are continuously shaped—and commodified—by data, algorithms, and the networks we inhabit.
