Yasmeen Lari

Yasmeen Lari, Pakistan’s first female architect, is a historian, conservationist, and philanthropist. She transitioned from elite modernism to zero-carbon architecture for marginalized communities, earning the 2023 RIBA Royal Gold Medal. Her accolades include Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Hilal, Fukuoka Prize, Jane Drew Prize, Jose Rizal Award, and the CAA Lifetime Achievement Award. A 1964 graduate of Oxford Brookes, she co-founded the Heritage Foundation of Pakistan in 1980 with Suhail Zaheer Lari, preserving tangible and vernacular heritage. Her BASA and Humanistic Humanitarianism models promote socio-ecological justice. Yasmeen holds honorary doctorates from Politecnico Di Milano and Oxford Brookes, served as visiting professor for Sustainable Design (2022–23), and is honorary fellow at Jesus College, University of Cambridge.
