Preserve Our Roots

Amara Nwuneli, winner of the Young Climate Voice Award, is a climate activist from Lagos who has been shaping environmental advocacy from a remarkably young age. At just 14, she founded Preserve Our Roots, an organization dedicated to climate education and youth empowerment, which today leads transformative projects in Nigeria. Among its most ambitious initiatives is the GREEN Sustainability Park, which is turning an underutilized area in a low-income Lagos community into a vibrant hub for learning, recreation, and climate action. Built entirely from recycled and repurposed materials, the park is designed to minimize environmental impact while creating a space for workshops, educational programs, and capacity-building initiatives that empower young people to drive climate justice efforts and sustainable practices in their own communities. As part of the Young Climate Prize Cycle 02 Cohort, Amara was mentored by Joseph Zeal-Henry, a strategist and urbanist recognized for advancing equity-driven approaches to city-making and climate adaptation.
